SITE OF THE DAY: The Shorty Awards Honor the Best of Short Content on Social Media

The Shorty Awards, now in their third year, are a unique, crowd-sourced awards program honoring “the best in short content in social media.” Nominations are made by the public via Twitter in a wide range of categories, including actor, celebrity, band, webshow, and even nonhuman. stated featured artist, Grace Helbig, is nominated in the videoblogger category (and based on her recent “King of the Web” win, she’s got a good shot at taking home a Shorty as well).
The awards have steadily gown in popularity and notoriety, with mentiones in The New York Times and Fast Company, who called them “the Oscars of the Social Media.”
