After getting “fired from pretty much every bar in South London,” George Morton-Clark decided the life of a professional painter was a better fit, and hasn’t looked back in seven years. Raised in Streatham, the 29-year-old now lives in Peckham, where he says “painting whilst drinking” keeps him up at night—at least until he makes Berlin his new home. His beautiful and emotionally evocative work illustrates “the world as a colliding of consciousness, made violent by its increasing extremes.” |

Two very big paintings for show at the beginning of next year. At the same time, two book covers for Walls and Frames, a great book that came out a month ago, and all the artist have been asked to design their own covers. |

How for this not to sound cliché? Loads of things, but one thing that really spurs me is looking at my contemporaries to see what they are doing. |

Not so much projects really, but more individual paintings. When I look back at them is when I feel proud and see that they still hold their own. |

Man…umm… I think having a great solo show in a great gallery is always an artist’s dream gig. Hopefully that will be happening next year—then if you asked me that question again after that, it would be working with different artists you respect and admire. That is always fun! |

Ah…leads on to this question! I love George Condo and Basquiat. One reason that I like them both is they don’t and didn’t seem to give a shit! They just got/get on what felt/feels natural to them and it worked/works! George Condo is a master of disturbing figures and I love this, as my work is quite dark at times and it helps me to see that someone else out there paints very disturbing images. Basquiat—I love him for his absolute randomness! He painted so free and I always try to consider this when I am painting. |

Rio/Berlin. Berlin is such a great city and it feels like the parents have gone out of town. There is such a great artist hub there, too. I visit very regularly but have not made the leap from London yet. Rio…what more can I say. That, and Sao Paulo. I love it over there and off again in January. You can never get bored off that country. |
